Artvark meanders through musical traditions and moves across te stage according an improvised choreography. Artvark stands for innovative original compositions, strong individual soloists and the adventurous groove of four saxophones. In 2009 they opened the ‘Haagse MuziekDrieDaagse’ with jazz legend Peter Erskine and percussion master Doudou n’Diaye Rose from Senegal. In 2010 they presented their new CD ‘Truffles’ with Dutch actor and poet Kees van Kooten and did they play at the North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2011 Artvark played in Ireland at the Bray Jazz Festival, was their music played in Cork at the Steve Reich Festival and was the première of ‘Sly Meets Callas’, a project with classical singer Claron McFadden, at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam. In 2012 does Artvark play at the Caïro Jazz Festival in Egypt, at the Bohemia Jazz Festival in Prague (and some other cities in the Czech Republic) and in Bangkok. Rolf Delfos (alto sax), Bart Wirtz (alto sax), Mete Erker (tenor sax) and Peter Broekhuizen (baritone sax) mix their different backgrounds to an unanimous creative and original sound: the sound of Artvark! Rooting through the mud in search for that one exquisite truffle.
